Dubie Honored to Get Unanimous Endorsement of Fire Fighters’ Union

Jul 28, 2010

Brian Dubie is excited to welcome the support of the Professional Fire Fighters of Vermont, which today announced it has unanimously endorsed Dubie's campaign for governor.

“I have tremendous respect for the work these brave men and women do,” Dubie said. “Their commitment to serving their communities is an inspiration, and I am honored to have their support in my campaign for governor of Vermont.”

The union represents fire fighters, EMTs and paramedics from 12 municipal departments across Vermont – Barre City, Barre Town EMTs, Bellows Falls, Brattleboro, Burlington, Hartford, Montpelier, Rutland City, St. Johnsbury, South Burlington, Springfield and Williston. They respond to 45,000 emergency calls a year and cover an estimated 40 percent of the state’s population.

“Brian cares about Vermont communities, and that’s important to us,” said Matt Vinci, a captain with the South Burlington Fire Dept. and president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Vermont. “The ability to deliver effective and efficient emergency services across Vermont is critical. We have worked through several issues with Brian as chair of the Governor’s Homeland Security Advisory Council to be able to ensure Vermont is a safe place to live, work and raise a family.”

Vinci noted the union considered all candidates, but said Brian Dubie has relationships and lines of communications that have been established with the union’s members over many years.

“This is not about party affiliation,” Vinci said, noting the union had also endorsed Democrats Steve Howard for Lt. Governor and Jim Condos for Secretary of State. “That points to the credibility of our process. It’s about who has been there for us and for the issues important to our members being able to deliver vital services to Vermonters.”

Vinci said the union’s members will be working hard until November campaigning for Brian Dubie. “Our members are very engaged in the political process,” he said. “We’re a small organization but have an immense amount of resources. We are excited about working from all corners of the state to ensure Brian is our next governor.”

Fire fighters will be knocking on doors, waving signs, and working on Dubie’s behalf to get voters to the polls. Every candidate the union has endorsed in a statewide race has gone on to victory on Election Day.

“Brian connects very well with my members,” Vinci said. “His time serving our country, his affiliation with a union as a captain with American Airlines, his values for the issues important to working Vermonters – all of it came together for our unanimous endorsement.”
