Dubie Previews Plan to Get Economy Back on Track
Lt. Gov. Dubie Will Cross Vermont on Six-Stop Train Tour
Essex Junction, VT - Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie will ride Vermont’s rails from one corner of the state to the other, previewing his plan to get Vermont’s economy back “on track.” This grassroots effort will allow hundreds of Vermonters to meet with Dubie in their own communities while getting a preview of his 10-point plan for creating jobs.
“A high tax burden and an oppressive regulatory environment have derailed economic growth in Vermont,” Dubie said. “I am running for governor to change that. We must get our economy moving forward. As Governor, I will create the pro-jobs environment businesses need to move full-steam ahead.”
The train ride is a nod to Vermont’s heritage with a focus on its future. Dubie will join supporters on board an old-fashioned, open-air train car, rallying votes and discussing his ideas for economic growth in Vermont. The train will stop at historic stations in St. Albans, Essex Junction, Montpelier, White River Junction, Bellows Falls and Brattleboro.
“Trains offer a unique way to see the diversity of Vermont’s landscape, from our scenic, rural vistas to our historic downtowns,” Dubie said. “As I talk to Vermonters around the state, they have one thing in common – they are concerned about the economy. As Governor, I will cut taxes and red tape to foster job growth. With more jobs and better-paying jobs, we can make Vermont a more affordable place to earn a living, raise our families, and retire with dignity.”
Reporters are invited to ride the train for the entire journey or between any two stops. The campaign can arrange for return transportation to your departure point. Lt. Gov. Dubie will make remarks and talk with supporters at each stop. He will be available for interviews at each stop or on board the train. RSVP to Kate Duffy if you would like to join us on the train.

Lt. Governor Brian Dubie today released the following statement in response to AARP's decision to cancel tomorrow night's gubernatorial debate.
"I am disappointed to learn tomorrow night’s AARP debate has been canceled. I committed to participate in this debate more than three months ago knowing it would take place two days after the primary and would be televised live across Vermont. There are major differences between me and my opponents, and I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to share those differences with Vermonters. I have a plan to cut taxes and red tape and grow jobs, while my opponents want to raise taxes and create dozens of new, unfunded government programs. I respect the primary process and look forward to a series of debates once my opponent has been selected."
More than a hundred Dubie supporters had RSVP'd to attend the AARP debate, and the campaign invites them instead to join Brian for a sign wave and rally at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow outside the Doubletree Hotel in South Burlington.

Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie welcomed the support Wednesday of unionized electricians and telecommunications workers, two local branches of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers that endorsed his campaign for Governor of Vermont.
“I have tremendous respect for the important and difficult work these dedicated professionals do,” Dubie said. “Vermonters depend on them in so many ways, from keeping the lights on to keeping us connected. As a fellow union member, I am excited to have their support. They work hard for a living and deserve a Governor who will look after their interests. As Governor, I will work to make sure they keep more of the money they earn. Like all Vermonters, they are overtaxed. I am running for governor to cut taxes and grow jobs.”
The IBEW Local 300 represents 1,200 electrical workers, including those who serve utilities such as Central Vermont Public Service and Green Mountain Power and municipalities such as Barton, Ludlow, Morrisville and Stowe.
“Why are we supporting Brian Dubie? One word – integrity,” business manager Jeffrey Wimette said. “If you are someone who gets up every day and goes to work, who puts in an honest day’s labor in return for a fair paycheck, Brian Dubie is the only candidate in this race who understands your concerns. As an active union member himself, Dubie understands the structure and benefits of organized labor. He has shown loyalty, respect, honor and selfless service, and he radiates genuine concern for the issues important to Vermont’s labor force.”
The IBEW Local 2326 represents 600 telecommunications workers from 144 communities around the state. They include people who install telephone and internet service, as well as support workers like auto mechanics and building trades people.
“From our first contact a few years ago, I saw in Brian Dubie many traits that are important to me,” business manager Mike Spillane said. “He has deep respect for people and their concerns and he places family and service to our country and state at the highest of priorities. Over the last few years we have faced many issues in Vermont, such as the Verizon sale and transition to FairPoint, and Brian Dubie has been right there with us, offering us his assistance all along.”
Lt. Gov. Dubie has also been endorsed by the Professional Fire Fighters of Vermont.

Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie’s campaign for governor announced Monday it has raised $92,596.50 in last 30 days, pushing its total past the $1 million mark.
“This is yet another sign of the tremendous momentum behind this campaign,” Dubie said. “We are running a true grassroots campaign. So far we have knocked on 44,000 doors and have 9,000 fans on Facebook. Vermonters are excited about this campaign, and I am thrilled to have their support.”
Lt. Gov. Dubie’s campaign announced Monday it has raised $92,596.50 in the past 30 days, since the last reporting period on July 15. To date, the campaign has raised $1,036,557.22. Details will be released Tuesday when the campaign files its official finance report with the Vermont Secretary of State’s Office.
“The fact that we have more than 4,000 individual donors is a sign my message is resonating,” Dubie said. “Vermonters see a clear difference in this election and they are responding. I have a vision to cut taxes, cut red tape, and grow jobs. My opponents have no solution but to raise taxes and create dozens of new government programs. Vermonters are taxed out. They deserve a governor who understands this and will work to help them keep more of their hard-earned money.”

Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie’s campaign poked fun at the suggestion that Dubie would participate in two debates Saturday hosted and moderated by the Bennington County Democratic Committee, which will instead ask Dubie’s potential opponents to pretend they are debating him.
“It’s no surprise Brian’s opponents would rather debate an empty chair than talk about their own agenda for higher taxes and dozens of new government programs,” campaign manager Corry Bliss said.
The Bennington County Democratic Committee is hosting two debates on Saturday, in which the moderator says he will read statements the lieutenant governor has made and ask the candidates to respond as if they were debating Dubie.
Instead of arguing with an empty chair in a library or school auditorium as his opponents are doing on Saturday, Lt. Gov. Dubie will be meeting with voters in Lamoille, Washington, Orleans and Caledonia counties. He will march in the Belvidere Old Home Parade, meet with tree farmers in Marshfield, meet with Vermonters at the Jay Annual Outdoor Fair, and finish the day meeting with farmers in Hardwick. Lt. Gov. Dubie will be in Bennington County on Sunday as the community celebrates a proud moment in Vermont’s history with Bennington Battle Day. In addition, his campaign will knock on 2,000 doors across Vermont this weekend.
“We look forward to a series of debates once the Democrats choose their nominee, because there is a clear difference between the lieutenant governor and all of his potential opponents,” Bliss said. “Lt. Gov. Dubie wants to cut taxes and grow the economy. His opponents want to raise taxes and create new government programs.”
During the primary process, each of Lt. Gov. Dubie’s potential opponents has advocated a long list of new government programs, frequently without any reference to how they will pay for them. A few favorites:
Semester abroad for all high school students. – Matt Dunne, UVM education debate, 1/25/10
Food for families at home, “not just school lunches or school breakfasts.” – Deb Markowitz, Burlington debate, 6/15/10
